Iron-rich Foods
A top tip for luscious locks is to get your fill of iron; a mineral that’s essential for hair growth. Mix your iron rich lean meats and veg with vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables too, which help to increase iron absorption.
Try eating chicken with a side order of spinach, or add some vitamin-packed peppers to your lean steak sandwich to get the perfect mix.
Oysters
Before you pull a face, oysters are nutrient-packed and well worth including in your diet if your locks need a boost. These little delicacies are full of zinc, a mineral that helps to promote cell division – and hair growth. If you suffer with a dry scalp and have noticed that your hair is thinning, you could have low zinc levels. If you really can’t face oysters, you can also get your daily zinc needs met with a serving of beef or pork.
Sweet Potatoes
A delicious way to improve your hair’s condition; these little beauties are rich in beta-carotene which converts to vitamin A in your body, a vitamin which helps to regulate cell production and turnover. Replacing old cells with new ones is vital for boosting healthy hair growth, and helps improve your scalp’s condition too. Sweet potatoes are delicious baked, and if they aren’t your thing, you could also try squash, apricots of cantaloupe melon for your daily dose.
Eggs
Eggs are a nutrient powerhouse, and one of the best nutritional sources of protein and amino acids. Hair is mostly made from keratin, a protein itself, and so it’s important to get enough good quality protein in your diet to ensure healthy hair growth. A diet with too little protein can leave your hair weak and brittle and also looking thinner as growth may start to slow down. Eggs are also good sources of iron and zinc, so aim for a few egg-based meals per week.
Salmon
Salmon is a bit of a super food in its own right, and fantastic for your hair because of the high levels of omega-3 fatty acids it contains. Healthy omega fats are great for hair condition, they are almost like internal conditioners, helping to keep your hair shiny and healthy, and your scalp well moisturised. Salmon, mackerel, trout and sardines all contain good amounts of omega 3 oils, but if you can’t stomach seafood, you could try adding a couple of teaspoons of ground flaxseed to a smoothie or sprinkling it onto your cereal in the morning.
Start adding a few of these healthy foods into your daily diet and your hair will thank you for it!
